About Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual's symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health. Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.
Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with 'red flag' signs or symptoms to their medical professional. They will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client's care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.
Clients of Alcohol Freedom Coaching note and agree to the following:
The degree of benefit obtainable from Nutritional Therapy may vary between clients with similar health problems and following a similar Nutritional Therapy programme.
Any personalised nutritional advice will be tailored to support health conditions and/or health concerns identified and agreed between both parties.
Nutritional therapists are not permitted to diagnose, or claim to treat, medical conditions.
Nutritional advice is not a substitute for professional medical advice and/or treatment.
Nutritional Therapists may recommend food supplements and/or functional testing as part of a Nutritional Therapy programme and may receive a commission on these products or services.
Standards of professional practice in Nutritional Therapy are governed by the CNHC Code of Conduct.
The Client understands and agrees to the following:
I am responsible for contacting my GP about any health concerns.
If I am receiving treatment from my GP, or any other medical provider, I should tell him/her about any nutritional strategy provided by Alcohol Freedom Coaching. This is necessary because of any possible reaction between medication and the nutritional programme.
It is important that I tell Alcohol Freedom Coaching about any medical diagnosis, medication, herbal medicine, or food supplements I am taking as this may affect the nutritional programme I am offered.
If I am unclear about the agreed nutritional therapy programme/food supplement doses/time period, I should contact Alcohol Freedom Coaching promptly for clarification.
I understand that any personalised advice provided is personal to me and may not be appropriate for others.
I must contact Alcohol Freedom Coaching should I wish to continue any specified supplement programme for longer than the original agreed period, to avoid any potential adverse reactions.

About Nutritional Therapy, Functional Nutrition and Functional Medicine Nutritional Therapy (Functional Nutrition)
is the application of nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners assess and identify potential nutritional, lifestyle and body system imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address these imbalances and help support the body towards maintaining health.
They frequently work alongside medical professionals and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client's care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.
The concept of Functional Medicine shifts the traditional disease-centred focus to a more client-centred approach, addressing the whole person rather than an isolated set of symptoms. Functional Medicine practitioners spend a substantial
amount of time with their clients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions between genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.
Functional Medicine is an integrative approach to health. It creates a focus on symptom prevention through nutrition, diet and lifestyle. Functional Medicine Practitioners make use of the latest functional laboratory testing, working with and frequently making referrals to the medical profession. We make, as appropriate, recommendations for botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programmes, stress management techniques and other lifestyle modifications.
Functional Nutrition is the core modality of Functional Medicine. A Functional Nutrition Analysis allows for nutrition-related findings and clinical patterns to emerge. From a medical history, laboratory and physical tests and a diet and lifestyle review, we are able to highlight individual insufficiencies/imbalances in
protein, fats, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients.
Alcohol Freedom Coaching uses a Functional Medicine approach to health with Nutritional Therapy (Functional Nutrition) and Affective Liminal Psychology coaching (emotion-led coaching) as the cornerstone of our programmes.
Alcohol Freedom Coaching nutritionists and coaches are not medical doctors or dieticians and are not permitted to diagnose, or claim to treat, medical conditions. Nutritional advice is not a substitute for professional medical advice and/or treatment. Your medical doctor should always be your first contact point for any health symptoms.
The degree of benefit obtainable from Nutritional Therapy (Functional Nutrition) and Functional Medicine approaches may vary between clients with similar health problems and following a similar Nutritional Therapy (Functional Nutrition) programme.
Nutrition and lifestyle recommendations will be tailored to support health conditions and/or health concerns identified and agreed between both parties.
Alcohol Freedom Coaching Nutritional Therapists are BANT and CNHC Registered. Standards of professional practice in Nutritional Therapy are governed by the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council) Code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance.
The British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) is a professional body for Registered Nutrition Practitioners in the UK. BANT practitioners have met required standards of training, are fully insured and adhere to the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and the BANT Professional Practice Regulations.
Alcohol Freedom Coaching may recommend food supplements and/or functional testing as part of your nutritional therapy programme and may receive a commission on these products or services.
You are responsible for contacting your GP or other primary medical provider about any health concerns.
If you are receiving treatment from your GP, or any other medical provider, you should inform him/her about any nutritional recommendations provided by Alcohol Freedom Coaching in order that they can accurately assess risk of possible reactions between medications and the nutritional programme. Similarly, it is vital that you inform Alcohol Freedom Coaching about any medical diagnosis, medication, herbal medicine or food supplements you are taking as this may affect your nutritional recommendations.
We may ask that you seek medical advice prior to starting work with Alcohol Freedom Coaching or at any point during work with Alcohol Freedom Coaching It is important, and it is your responsibility that you do this once we have made this recommendation.
It is important that you continue to update your Alcohol Freedom Coaching Nutritional Therapist with any new medical diagnosis (including pregnancy), medications, herbal medicines, or food supplements you are taking as this may affect your Alcohol Freedom Coaching programme recommendations. Please notify us in advance of taking any medications, herbal medicines or other food supplements so that we may adjust your programme accordingly.
If you are unclear about the agreed nutritional therapy programme/food supplement doses/time period, you must contact Alcohol Freedom Coaching promptly for clarification.

If you are unclear about any aspect of your agreed Alcohol Freedom Coaching recommendations (including dietary recommendations, food supplement doses and timing) you should contact Alcohol Freedom Coaching promptly at hello@alcoholfreedomcoaching.com
Food Supplements
Food Supplements may be, but are not always, recommended by Alcohol Freedom Coaching during a one to one consultation. Any food supplements that are recommended during group coaching calls are not specific to you and you should obtain specific one to one advice to ensure that they are appropriate for you.
The purpose of individualised supplement recommendations is to aid the intake of dietary nutrients, helping to supply nutrition to support physiological and biomechanical processes of the human body. Technically, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, herbs and other remedies are not classified as drugs. However these substances can have significant effects on physiology. Use of nutritional supplements may be safely recommended for clients already using pharmaceutical medications but some potentially harmful interactions may occur. For this reason it is important to keep all of your healthcare providers fully informed about all medications and nutritional supplements, herbs or hormones you may be taking.
In view of this it is vital that you inform Alcohol Freedom Coaching if:
• You begin or change any medication/hormone treatment/herbs/other nutritional supplements or remedies
• You develop any health conditions not already disclosed
•You experience any side effects from these supplements (note that some supplements may cause urine to turn yellow but this is not a cause for concern).
Nutrient requirements change over time and any Alcohol Freedom Coaching supplement programme is recommended only until your next Review Consultation or as otherwise stated, to a maximum of 3 months.
Supplements differ in their quality and cost but your Alcohol Freedom Coaching Recommendations are based on our experience and knowledge of particular brands and supplements. This includes the purity of the supplements, quality, bioavailability (ability to be properly absorbed and utilised by the body), effectiveness and predictability of results. They are also personalised to those best suited to your unique requirements.
Costs of food supplements are not included in the cost of any consultations or Alcohol Freedom Coaching programmes. Alcohol Freedom Coaching may receive commission on some (but not all) food supplements purchased with an Alcohol Freedom Coaching Code from certain retailers. In most cases this commission is shared with the client and any remaining commission received by the Alcohol Freedom Coaching is used as reinvestment in Continuing Professional Development.
Please note that you are under no obligation to purchase supplements through our recommended suppliers.
Functional Laboratory Tests
Functional Laboratory Tests may be recommended while working with Alcohol Freedom Coaching.
The purpose of Functional Laboratory Tests is to evaluate nutritional, biochemical or physiological imbalances and to determine requirements for medical referrals. These Functional Laboratory Tests are not intended to diagnose disease. Please note that your medical doctor may, or may not be, familiar with, agree with the necessity for, and/or agree with our interpretation of these test results.
Functional Laboratory Tests are usually ordered on your behalf by Alcohol Freedom Coaching and will be posted to your provided home address on your Intake Forms.
Functional Laboratory Tests may be recommended and ordered at extra cost. Payment may be required directly to Alcohol Freedom Coaching in advance, directly to the testing laboratory in advance or may be requested on submission of your test sample. Tests used may be saliva, urine, breath, stool, finger-prick blood tests or may require a venous blood draw with or without centrifuge.
Please note that blood draw (phlebotomy) costs are extra and you will be directed to private hospitals or phlebotomists who are able to assist you. Postage and courier costs may also be at additional cost. Test results will be returned to Alcohol Freedom Coaching and will be made available to you at a paid consultation to discuss these results.
Alcohol Freedom Coaching may receive a commission on some (but not all) functional medicine laboratory tests. If provided, this commission is used as a Test Interpretation Fee and/or as reinvestment in Continuing Professional Development.
Tests purchased from Alcohol Freedom Coaching must be used within a 6 month period and cannot be refunded after 6 months from purchase date.
